BlogHop: Question of the Month.

The very entertaining and talented Mike from A Life Examined has graciously decided to host a party.
Well, it might not be a party exactly, but it’s at least considered a gathering!
He has initiated a bloghop called Question of the Month and I’m honored to a part of it.
It was open to the world, but Jax can pretend that it’s an exclusive “gathering”, right? RIGHT?!

What are three things that you'd do tomorrow if you weren't blocked by fear?
Well, since he specified "three" things, I'll override my OCD and not make a list of ten...

1.  Change my career.
I've spent my entire life preparing myself to be a successful accountant.
In fact, I'm STILL lining up my life for this same career path.
My education and the majority of my work experience is in accounting or some sort of financial function.
If I wasn't bound by the fear of unpaid bills and failure, I'd pursue my dream career of journalism.
I am in the process of trying to move into sales.  Goodbye cubicle and HELLO pay increase and incentives.

2.  Get laser eye surgery.
I have awful eyesight that makes it impossible to see a damn thing without my contacts or glasses.
I'm not a fan of wearing glasses.  Contacts are expensive and sometimes uncomfortable.
If I wasn't afraid of going blind or unknown future complications, I'd totally get laser eye surgery.
Corrective lenses are such a financial burden that the surgery would save me money in the long term.
Besides, if an alien invasion did happen to occur, I can't see glasses or contacts being very practical!  Sigh.

3.  Get pregnant.
My little Mushy is past her second birthday and I never imagined my children more than 3 years apart.
If I wasn't scared of financial problems, impacts on my career, and body damage, I'd try to get pregnant now.
Being pregnant again scares the heck out of me.  The first time I didn't know what I was in for, but now I do!
Now that I sound like a completely selfish witch, you can't say that I don't spill it all for you guys!

What three things would you do if you weren't scared?

  1. Aw, of course we don't think you're a witch :) That's a really unique one, thanks for sharing :)

  2. I'd move abroad and never return :) Or at least move to the capital city and never return :) I'd never get pregnant :) and I'd never do laser surgery since I'm too cute with the glasses LOL
I think that most people would approach everyone they like if they weren't scared... like you approach Chris Hunksworth and who knows what might happen....

  3. I want lasik too! But also, fear and money. Damnit.

  4. Know a few who had lasik and they are fine, for now anyway. Money is always a killer when it comes to things, but meh, sometimes you just gotta do what you just gotta do.

  5. I'd do the laser eye surgery, but I hear it's rather expensive, and I'm a little sensitive about my eyes. One of the few surgeries where you can be awake while it happens

  6. I'd go for that laser. My children are three years apart. Studies say 3 years apart is the best because they're close enough to enjoy each other's company but not so close that they feel competitive. My boys are still competitive.

  7. I had laser eye surgery many years ago and it was the best investment ever. Waking up and seeing the numbers on the alarm clock was a huge deal for me! Oh and my boys are 4 1/2 years apart and it's awesome. No sibling rivalry and they are still great friends.

  8. Absolutely #1 for me as well! I'm in the process of making a change, but can't wait for it to be permanent! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  9. I'm too scared to get the lasik surgery. My sister had it done. One of the eyes didn't go so well and they had to go back a year later and try again. Everything is good now. I'm sticking with my contacts and glasses.

As for the second baby . . . mine are two years apart and get along only 50% of the time. I was 4 years younger than my sister and we were mortal enemies until she went to college. It probably depends more on personalities than the age difference.

  10. The career thing I get. I'm trying to make a change now, but as you point out, I gotta pay the bills.
I think I need glasses. Guess I'll see how serious it is.
As for the preganacy, I don't have kid and don't plan to, but I often feel bad about my friends who have one and would like another. For whatever the reason may be, it saddens me that woman have to face the issue of I want a baby but may not be able to have one.

  11. Me, too on the eye surgery! So scary but I want it!

  12. Changing a career can be pretty scary. Can you try to do something that could help you toward journalism while also keep your current job? Like taking a class or trying to publish articles?

And you don't sound like a selfish witch. I have too many friends who have popped out babies one right after the other without considering the impact of having another baby. They don't think about their current child/children, their job, or their finances. I know some who is pregnant right now because she wanted an even number (4) of kids. Now that's selfish!

  13. Really great heartfelt answers. It sounds like financial security is important to you. I'd say keep the job and write on the side, maybe write something for a local publication. Keep your heat open to expanding your family.

  16. I like your answers. They seem way more down to earth than mine, haha .. I feel you on the career thing. I'd love to write full time, but our financial situation won't allow it. Also, I didn't think about it for mine, but #2 exactly the same for me. I hate having to wear glasses, but having a laser near my eye freaks me right out!

  17. Oh, sweet and adorable Jax...I can't play along as I'm too old to try to make changes of any kind.
I can't even think of anything I would want to try that scares me....in fact, I think I'm not scared of the devil himself...

  18. I would definitely move to another country- even if just for a few years. I would love to live in London or somewhere super urban, a big change from the suburbs I've been in all my life. But I'm totally terrified, haha!

    Great post, lady!

  19. changing your career is a big one. I like mine but there's always that question in everyone's mind (well, a lot of people anyway).

And being pregnant is a bit scary to me too. I definitely want kids and plan to have them but (in your word) 'EEP!"

  20. I'm not the right person to ask this. I am the real life Charlie Brown... I'm afraid of everything : (
