LinkUp: Healthy Eating

Today I am linking up with my girl, Melanie, from Sporkin Down the Road.
She’s beyond amazing and one of my favorite blogging spots.  You should totally say hello!

Her and I were discussing “diets” and how much we hate that term.
Eating healthy should be a way of life, not a forced behavior for a set period of time.
We eat healthy because we want to be healthy, not because we’re maintaining our weight.
Ok, so I’m slightly concerned about bulges in my bikini.  Sue me!  I’m still a girl you know…

On top of our super healthy diet, we try to maintain a healthy lifestyle in other ways.
Such as purchasing organic cleaners, exercising a fair amount, and enjoying our life through fun and laughter!
By not obsessing over our bodies, we managed to make peace with ourselves.
...and our hot summer outfits….

So, what does Jax's healthy eating habits consist of?

I eat little meals throughout the entire day.
Don’t look at me like that!  I like to munch…

8:00AM – 2 Hard Boiled Eggs
10:00AM – 1 Cup Oatmeal
12:00PM – Salad (cherry tomatoes, fresh Mozzarella, blueberries, avocado, craisins, almonds...)
3:00PM – Banana & Grapes
5:00PM – Cereal Bar
7:00PM – Dinner (A home cooked meal including a meat, a vegetable, and a carb.)
8:30PM – Green Tea

Throughout the day I try and drink at least 3 additional glasses of green tea and one cup of coffee.
I’m from NY.  You knew coffee had to be in there somewhere, right??
On top of that, I also try and only eat organic vegetables and fresh meats/fishes.

What are your healthy eating habits?

  1. I never eat after 6PM :)
Aren't two eggs a day a bit too much for cholesterol, darling? :)
Speaking as a nutrition expert that me is :) I'd say that your diet is a bit danerous since you basically don't eat whole day (some fruit and a cereal bar isn't eating) and then you attack your body with a complex dinner. What you eat for dinner should be eaten between 12pm and 3PM :) And drinking too much green tea can be dangerous as well since according to latest research it can cause heart problems... it's similar to coffee thanks to tannin....

    1. Eggs are good cholestorol. My doctor told me to eat 2 a day because I was deficient in protein.

That's the difference between Americans and Europeans...we eat our big meals late at night. Our employers don't even give us the option of eating our big meals during the afternoon. That's probably one of the many reasons why Americans have high obesity statistics!!

Eep!! Is that true about the green tea? The Japanese drink it like water!! Clearly some of their customs have rubbed off on me... lol

    2. well, I love tea, so I choose to avoid the research :) and tea is good for all other kinds of health things since it is filled with antioxidants. So I'd bathe in it too :)

    3. Oh, I love tea too! It's why we're always perky, Dez!!

Yes, tea is supposedly a miracle worker. And a tea bathe? I read in Glamour somewhere that gives you a very suddle fake tan. Should we try it??? lol

    4. nya, my Lipton Black Tea is way too posh and expensive to be wasted on me bum and other body parts :)

  2. If I told you about my diet you would probably tell me, that I should be dead by now. But my diet is part of the Kung Fu I invented called Jim Fu. You would not understand it at all, but it is thanks to Jim Fu that I have achieved almost super human strength and wellness. It is through Jim Fu that I will one day either achieve worldwide fame, or international obscurity. I personally guarantee it.

    1. Well, I could never argue with a personal guarantee ;)

Jim Fu? Do you have a work out video? That P90x thing seems to be totally overrated!!! lol

  3. I eat small meals throughout the day as well. I also vary my exercise so my muscles don't get used to the same old same old. On a good day I try not to eat anything past 6:30pm, but if I've hit the vino, all bets are off.

    1. Girl, you sound super healthy!! In fact, you sound healthier than me! I don't get home from work until after 6:30 and then first have to cook. Not to mention if I have a class at night...then I'm not home until almost 10.

Variation is exercise is very important. My old PT used to tell me that all the time!

    2. So you eat your big meal in the afternoon as well? Why do American's eat their big meal so late at night?! No wonder we all have ingestion...

Oh, yoga is so great!! Meditation and what not is supposed to be amazing for you :)

      Delete
    3. Well normally I ate about 7 PM but if I go to a big lunch (believe me almuerzo is more bigger than a lunch lol) I ate so little in the afternoon. !

    4. And drink loads of water always I love water almost we dont buy NOW sodas, when the kids were more little love them but now drink more water and when I go out to shopping or others always I go with my water bottle, many years I made this:)

and white wine with dome foods how you know, fortunately I dont drink rum, or vodka (esperanza love vodka) or pisco (like tequila) but I use to ccok and Esperanza fight with me I love rum to cook!

      Delete
    5. Drinking loads of water is my biggest downfall. I can't seem to choke enough of it down. If it's disguised as tea with honey, then I can sip all day long and get in what I what need. But plain water, bleh!! Then again, lemon in my water sometimes helps...but I have to be in the "water mood". Odd, right?? lol

      Delete
  5. I drink tons of water. And peppermint tea. And since cherries are in season...lots of those!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, water is supposed to be the best thing for you. I try and drink as much as I can. I'm lucky if I can get a 16oz bottle of it down my throat by the end of the day. But, I do try and make for it with the extra tea.

Ohh, cherries are so yum!! The best part of them is spitting out the seeds. Realll classy, right?? lol

      Delete
    2. If you're not into plain water - you might try boiling it with some cinnamon stick and a clove or two. It's good both hot or cold and it's like drinking liquid spice cake! ;-)

      Delete
    3. Ohh, YUM!! Girl, that sounds like a great idea. Liquid spice cake? yes, please!!

  6. The small meals throughout the day are such a great idea to keep the metabolism in check. I am guilty of three meals and an afternoon snack. Usually a handful of almonds around three so I'm not ravenous by the time I eat dinner. Like the other Melanie, I drink TONS of water. It's not only good to keep hydrated for health reasons, it's also beneficial to your skin.

The linkup is fun. If you want to do it once a month I'm totally down.

Also, other Melanie, I just finished off the most amazing bag of bing cherries from our farmer's market. I hadn't had cherries in years. I forgot how damn good they are.

    1. Yes, I try and keep the metabolism in check. I also try to keep it in check by doing laps around the building periodically throughout the day. The lap around the building is about a 10 minute walk, so it has to wake up something in my body. LOL

The link up was so fun!! I'm totally into it if you would like to keep doing it :)

Cherries are so yum, but I really like to spit out the seeds! Childish, I know...but so fun to see who can spit the seed the farthest. Classy much?? lol

  7. Consider I am a dietary consultant, I can tell you you are on the right track girl. The only thing I would say to you is make sure you are getting 75 to 100 grams of protein a day and drink almost a gallon of water. :)
You are too cute! Love your face!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Dietary consultant? Oh, I love that!! Right on track works for me. There are so many things that people can't control, but your diet is one of them. I try and keep it healthy.

I slack on the protein. That's where my eggs come into play. Do you remember the post on when my hair started falling out because I didn't get enough protein??? lol

    1. Thanks, Bersec! I try :) Chocolate and chips? Thohse aren't allowed?? Damn... I love them too. I try and restrict them though!

  10. But what about yoghurt? Do you not like it? I'm in love with yoghurt right now and just can't get enough of it... soo good!

My main foods right now are yoghurt, oats, dal, vegetables and some fruit(although not quite enough).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm not a fan of yogurt. The smell, the taste, and the consistency all makes me gag. LOL But, it is supposed to be very, very good for you. In exchange for the yogurt, I take acidopholus pills. Not as good as the real thing, but good enough!

      What is dal?

      Delete
    2. Ah, ok :) I'm the same way about mushrooms!

Dal is the centre portion of gram/beans. The one I've been using is dal from green gram (mung beans). I use it instead of rice because I need more protein too - and I'm liking it a lot.

What about protein powder? I can't get it here but my friends from California swear by it ;-)

  11. It sounds like a really balanced diet! I love lots of snacks too; they keep your blood sugar from getting too low.

    1. Oh snacks and munching are some of my favorite things to do!! I mean, I had to literally stop buying junk because I just couldn't control myself from shoving it down my throat. Yikes!!

      Delete
  12. That's a nice diet plan you have. You dont have to explain about why you have to eat or diet , you are doing it yourself and doing for yourself. Maintaining weight is a good thing.
The problem with me I need to cook three dinners at home and 2 lunches for next day, I like to munch on salads and boiled veggies or soup but kids need their own meal - American/Italian and hubby needs Indian, so it consumes lot of time and I never get satisfaction and no family dinner time. I dont know what to do about it. I hate eating outside food.
And summertime we go for biking/play/library in the evening, after long day of work and all - it is tiring and exhausting but heay, family :)

    Replies
    1. Thanks, Cap! Oh that does sound tiring!! You have to cook so many different types of food. At least you get some yummy diversity in your house. What a great way to incorporate exercise into your family's life!

  15. Toast and apples in the morning
    Grapes here and there
Salad or something of the like
    Grapes some more
Supper with meat, veggies and such
Bowl of cereal with banana and blueberries
Sometimes a granola bar and some cape cod chips here and there and maybe another apple as well. Then a coffee a day and apple juice, with some orange juice as well. That is about it at the moment.

As far as eating after a certain time goes, it's BS, it's what you eat not when you eat.

    1. Look at the cat!! He's a star eater ;) LOL I diasagree with you on when you eat though. If you eat everything at once that's called binging and it will put your body in shock. You'll get sick and won't be able to digest it properly. You also risk passing out from not enough "fuel" to get through the day if you don't eat all day long. When you eat is certainly a factor!

I used to have awful digestion. My doctor told me to try and eat every 3 hours. Voila! Problem solved. :)

      Delete
    2. Well yeah it has to be moderated to. So what you eat and how much, better? Lol

A star eater all because of a blabber that scared the cat haha

  16. I try to keep things pretty well consistent throughout the day. Especially if I have a tournament coming up. I'll eat several small meals throughout the day but I try my best to make sure they are all even as far as nutrition and content goes. I feel best when I eat this way. On my cheat days when I have a larger meal I always feel extremely sluggish.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I totally agree! When you cheat you're whole system is off. On weekends I end up messing my entire schedule up. My body will either shut down and not make me hungry enough to keep eating, or it will bloat to poppig point. It's funny how changing your eating habits effects your body so much.

  17. I eat eggs, but I eat maybe three or four egg whites, getting rid the yolks. The bad part is, I like eat them at work because they are an easy snack, but then spend the day explaining to everyone that passes by that I was just eating eggs, not tooting! ;)

    ReplyDelete

    1. The yolk is supposed to have a lot of cholesterol, but I heard that it was good cholesterol. Then again, I could have been lied to. :) LMAO @ the tooting!! hahaha

  18. I'm not even going to tell you guys what I just ate for lunch - I'd get shot!

I love to eat so I eat. However, I don't snack unless its on occasion. This week I bought a box of ice cream for the family and it was a big deal in our house. Hubby is a different story and he's on his own as far as snacks...I have up the lecturing long ago LOL

Tonight for dinner though, it'll be fish, salad and veggies of some sort. Last night it was black beans and rice with a salad...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Eep!! You won't get shot, but we may bombard you with concerned comments ;)

Ohh, I love to eat too and snacking is totally OK on occasion. I'm guilty, I'm guilty!!

      Ice cream? nom nom nom

  19. I eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies [usually with peanutbutter], as well as fresh meat/fish and drink water. The important part for me is if you're going to snack, then make it something that's healthier than eating a box of donuts or something. lol

However, I also have to have sugars too, especially during the summer, because my bloodsugar will drop otherwise. To fix that, I usually stick to one soda or small coffee [like tomorrow, since I have to get up at 6 in the morning] or something else that I can work off just by going about my day regularly.
On some days, I'll drink juice instead, but the problem is that when there is juice in the house that is all I will drink and that is not healthy at all. haha

  22. You certainly do some healthy eating. As for me, I try to eat lettuce and tomato on my burgers, sea salt on my fries, and dark chocolate as much as possible. Oh, and every morning a glass of Clamato Juice with a liberal dose of Tabasco sauce.

Sea salt on your fries is still definitely unhealthy, but nice try!! lol ;)

      Delete
    2. Clamato juice is a combination of Clam nectar and tomato juice. I probably is high in sodium, but I'm sure the Tabasco sauce makes it especially healthy. Tabasco has gotta be like medicine or something. Same goes for anchovy pizza with onions and jalapenos. Don't tell me that's not healthy.

in my case, sometimes options are limited... living on tour is not the most comfortable thing when you want to maintain a certain diet or food routine. but one thing i always do is drink lots of water. i also love mixing cereal with fruits... i´m not a big fan of salads, so i usually eat my veggies cooked. i try different recipes to include them in my diet. pasta and rice are always there! haha :)
