Ideas: Get Well Soon CoWorker

This week my manager left for a whole stinking month.
I know what you're thinking.  "The nerve of that woman!"  But, hold up, she's got an excuse!
My manager took off because she is having surgery and will need time to recuperate.
Despite the mounds of work that she'll be leaving us with, she's a great manager and I wish her well!

My manager is a sweetheart and I totally adore her!
Peaches and I wanted to get together a little gift basket before she left, so we brainstormed ideas.
...and you all know what happens when Peaches and I brainstorm...

While we never put the basket together, we settled on having flowers delivered to her after she is released from the hospital. We know it's not an original gift, but I'm sure the thought will still serve as a pick me up!
You know I can't make all my brainstorming go to waste though, right??

Here are some great ideas to get a co-worker as a Get Well Soon gift.

1.  Movie Basket
Pick a whole bunch of cute chick flicks and throw it in a pretty basket filled with candy and popcorn.
Movies and candy are a great way to spend the day when you are bed ridden!
My sick day chick flick pick was Devil Wears Prada!  Did you catch that rhyme, Cat?

2.  Book Basket
Pick a trilogy of books and put it all together in a cute package with a fancy bookmark.
Many people wish for more time to read a good book.  Might as well help your coworker take advantage of it!
My book trilogy pick was Fifty Shades of Grey.  Nothing like a juicy read to help feel better!

3.  Recipe Journal
Purchase a super cute, keepsake recipe journal for your co-worker to make use of!
Some people like to feel useful when they are recouping!  Organizing the messy recipe drawer is a great start!
The recipe journal I like is from here.  It's cute, practical, and yellow!

4.  Tea Infuser
The one thing I love when I am sick is a really good cup of tea.
A fancy tea infuser set is a great gift and totally appropriate to pair with a get well soon card!
The loose tea infuser I picked above is from here.  I actually may get that for myself...

5.  Picture Frame
This was Peaches' idea and a total gag gift bound to make our manager laugh!
A framed picture of your manager's favorite employees eh hem is sure to brighten his/her's recouping face!
I totally fell in love with the above picture frame from here.

What are your get well soon gift ideas for a co-worker?

  1. I like the movie basket idea and my chick flick would be Bridesmaids. Couldn't stop laughing when I watched it! Of course, if it's abdomen surgery of any kind, then laughing isn't such a good thing... so you have to consider whether laughing is an option or not.

For books I would suggest The Corfu Trilogy by Gerald Durrell - so funny!

And then... cookies are always nice :-)

    1. Right? That's a perfect thing for a person who is pretty much bed ridden. A few chuckles is perfect! Oh, Bridesmaids was hysterical, but I thought of the laughing too hard bit! Another favorite is My Best Friend's Girl. I know it's vulgar, but Dane Cook is sexy and makes me laugh!!

I've never heard of that trilogy. I have to look it up.

      Cookies? Nom nom nom lol

    2. The flight scene in Bridesmaids was the best! This is the first I'm hearing of My Best Friend's Girl but I'll definitely have a look and see if it's my type. I need something to watch now that all my TV shows are over for the summer.

About The Corfu Trilogy - Gerald Durrell was a conservationist and wrote many books about his adventures in Africa (and other places) collecting animals for zoos. However, the books in The Corfu Trilogy are about his his and his family's experiences living on an island just off of Greece. The first book of the trilogy is called "My Family and Other Animals" and is a real laugh out loud book. Crazy funny! He does talk about animals a lot though - so you have to be ok with that.

      Yes, cookies!

  5. I'm sure she would have loved it, those are all great ideas. My co-workers are lucky to get a "get well soon" anything from me. Not that I hate them or anything, but those slackers are always taking "sick" time off.

    1. Yes, I'm sure she would have. Especially the framed picture of me and my g/f cheesing! hahahahaha

Slackers? Oh no, they don't get gift baskets ;) lol You'd go broke!

  6. All great gift ideas! Comedies are one of my go to feel good items when I'm feeling sick. Bridesmaids is also my favorite "chick flick" too - just loved it!!

    1. Thanks, Elsie!! Bridesmaids was hysterical, but almost too funny for a person who was just sliced open and closed back up. (Wow, that was pretty graphic. lol) The scene in the bathroom kills me everytime! hahahaha

    2. Elsie is the one who told me about Bridesmaids. I will be eternally grateful to her for that ;-)

  7. Well, if your manager is a kind person, I'm all for a gift. I only give presents to their secretaries. A movie basket... that sounds great. No remakes, though! Or movies about back-stabbing bosses like Working Girl.

    1. My manager is a very kind person! We love her!! lol Everyone seems to love the movie basket idea. No remakes or work movies? Got it! lol

  8. But what if you don't like your coworkers?

I hope I never get a basket of chick flix if I ever get sick!

    1. There are co-workers that I don't like. I smile and walk away. LOL Friendly but not friends. :)

LOL What's wrong with chick flicks? Yes, I know that dudes actually like them too ;) lol

    2. Yeah... what's wrong with chick flix? It beats looking at a bunch of guys chasing each other hahaha.

  9. My Asst. Store Manager left for about 6-8 weeks. He just got back, it was kinda weird seeing him come back after all this time.

    1. Right? It's weird when they return. But a good weird...right? Right?!

  10. LOL not sure I'd want a basket of chick flicks either, but yeah a basket of movies surely is the best one. And you even rhymed with it, the cat caught that right away, of course since he does it every day.

The picture frame idea is very funny, at least she could use it to scare the rats away hahahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh, for the love of god!! Men love chick flicks!! Why can't they come out and say it ;) LOL Then Gerard is going to jump all over that! hahahaha

Glad that the cat caught my very impressive rhyme. lol

Oh, the picture frame would have been great. Too funny! Scare the rats away? There are rats? And why would they be afraid of us?? Sigh... lol

      Delete
    2. hahaha not sure impressive would be the word I would use, but the cat will pretend as much. And pffft to that, the cat doesn't need all those chick flicks, yes a few are good but many are way to lovey dovey and whiny for me. So Gerard will leave me be.

Those rats will run for they see you and just know the shriek that would come due..haha

      Delete
    3. Impressive?? Impressive?!?!?!? Yess, it totally was!!!! LOL That was like a quadruple rhyme all in one sentence!!! lol

Gerard is looking for something to tease you with. Maybe I'll just tell him that the cat likes chick flicks anyways... ;) lol

  11. As usual wonderful ideas Jax. I wouldnt mind to go on sick leave if I am receiving these gifts.
Apart from that 1-800-FLOWERS and bouquets and fruit bouquets and all such. My collegueas are sweet and my boss is a pretty good one too. He is funny, smart and very understanding, he is a great guy. I dont want to see my collegues or boss in hospital though. :(
I cant say the same for my prev job, I would like to send them to hospitals. That case I would send them movie basket with "Castaway", "Schindler's list" and "The help" and A clockwork orange - Hitler movies :)

These are really good, pictureframe, movie basketand book basket and all such.

    1. Thanks, Cap!! 1-800-FLOWERS may be what I use. LOL Just a little something to make her smile. Glad that you enjoy our co-workers. Sad thing is, we spend more time with them then we do our family and friends. That's some BS, right?? hahaha

    2. I agree but I got to admit, my family is in India and my friends are everywhere in US, and some of my close friends are my colleagues and others are my neighbors and acquaintances I met in places I volunteer.
Sounds sad? I kinda like it :)

  12. oh fabulous ideas!! i love the movie basket and the tea. Because really- when I'm recuperating those two things, soup and ginger ale are really all I can stomach to do or consume. You are so thoughtful to send flowers to her. It's funny, when you said your manager was leaving for a month my thought was instantly "good for her!" rather than "the nerve of that lady!". haha. I believe in taking sabbaticals as you age and can't wait until I earn one!

    Replies
    1. Thanks, Caitlin! The tea thing is so fun and will be useful forever!! Well, idk about forever, but you know what I mean. lol

Well, today when I got stuck doing her work I was leaning more towards the nerve line other than good fr her. ;) But, shh, don't tell her I said that! lol

  13. I like the movie basket idea, but that's because I'm a movie nerd. I like spa baskets as well. I put together a mean relaxation basket once, complete with lotions and pedicure stuff, and a gift certificate for a massage.

  18. I always do the movies as a gift. It's a big enough gift for the recipient not to complain about only getting a card. But it is a lot better than getting nothing, which is totally lame. On the other hand when I get the gift of nothing, I am getting a whole new wonderful kind of gift actually...the gift of being able to be bitter, and resentful over what lame friends I have, and that is totally priceless.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think a movie is an awesome gift! As long as you don't get something cheesy and annoying like The Notebook. That movie makes me cringe...

Lame friends? Lies!!! I'm going to put a good word in to them for you. I'm going to tell them how you're dying for that snazzy tea infuser ;) lol

  21. I would say a fruit basket to counter your candy and popcorn idea. After all they are gonna need something to help them lose weight after THAT lol I'm usually not to creative in this dept. Books, or meals are usually my forte. This is why I write. I'm to non creative in other areas. :)
You're picture came in third place by the way. :)

loved ideas 1 and 2!!! they´d make the perfect gift for someone in bed... it´d help them drift away from their situation without doing much.
in your case i think it´d also be nice to ask everyone at the office to write little "get well" notes and then pin them all together on a board with other optimistic messages and colorful pictures. :)

i laughed SO much on the last comment you left me...MEDUSA? hahaha SO GOOD! (sophia grace style- seen her at The ellen Show?)

  29. Well, since I run a gift basket business from my home, you know I love your ideas! A Get Well basket is one of my favorites to put together! The typical sickness...you know cold or flu...is easy....magazine or book, movie to watch, lip balm, hand lotion, aloe infused socks, throat lozenges, and some tea. Of course it all depends on how much you want to spend, but even a scaled-down version like magazine-lotion-throat drops is really cute and sure to make anyone feel better.

ok...I'm blabbing like blabber! hahaha....I do hope your manager recovers easily!
